An extruder is a machine that creates continuous, fixed-profile shapes (like pipes, tubes, or filaments) by forcing melted or pliable material—commonly plastic, rubber, or food—through a shaped die. It operates using a rotating screw to heat, mix, and push material, functioning as a high-pressure, continuous forming tool.

Components
Hopper:
The hopper serves as the reservoir for the raw material, feeding it into the extruder barrel.
Barrel:
The barrel houses the screw or screws and provides the primary processing chamber where the raw material is heated, mixed, and compressed.
Screw:
The screw is the heart of the extruder, responsible for conveying, compressing, and melting the material as it moves along the barrel.
Heating Elements:
Heating elements, such as electric heaters or steam jackets, are integrated into the barrel to raise the temperature of the material to the desired level for processing.
Die:
The die is located at the end of the extruder barrel and shapes the material into the desired form as it exits the machine.
Cooling System:
In some cases, a cooling system may be incorporated to rapidly cool and solidify the extruded product after it exits the die.
Process
Feeding in the material: The material, often in the form of granules or powder, is fed into a machine known as an extruder.
Extrusion cylinder: The material is taken into an extrusion chamber, home to one or more rotating screws. Bausano has successfully introduced the principle of electromagnetic induction in the heating of the extrusion cylinder, an industrial innovation that differs from traditional systems based on resistance heaters.
Heating and melting: The screw or screws in the extruder rotate while heating the material. This heating causes the material to melt, turning it into a plastic or fluid state. Heating systems are fundamental to bringing the material to the right temperature for melting. Accurate temperature control is vital for guaranteeing the quality of the end product.
Continuous pressure and shaping: The screw or screws continue pushing the molten material through the machine. This pressure allows the material to flow through a mold or die, taking on the required shape.
Cooling: Once shaped, the products go through a cooling process that solidifies the material, fixing its shape.
